Lily at Dusk - September 30, 2011

     I made this quilt,  " Lily at Dusk"  ( 29"x 34" ) , and finished it in March of 2002.   It is featured in the book  "Quilting in the Morning Calm" by Shirley MacGregor and Sheila Steers on pages 30-31.  It traveled in a "traveling exhibit" to many venues and countries .   I was ask by Shirley MacGregor, a fiber artist, to participate and make a quilt from one of the paintings of Sim Saimdang, a famous Korean woman who lived in the early 16th century for this book.    Saimdang did paintings of flowers and insects on screens.
     I used cotton fabrics, iridescent fabric, ultra suede and beads on this quilt.  It is machine pieced and quilted.

      I live in northern Virginia and the firework display in Washington DC is spectacular on July 4th.   I beaded the fireworks on this fiber piece for an on-line haiku / fiber art challenge group.  It is 12 inches square in size.  The theme for September was "rhapsody".  My haiku for this fiber piece is:

Bombs bursting in air...
I see and hear the fireworks...
My heart beats quickly...
